Janett Hernandez – Waxhaw Student Therapist
Education - Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Expected: August 2027)
Hello! I am a bilingual Spanish-English therapist, currently pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wingate University. I am committed to creating a supportive, safe, and compassionate space where individuals feel heard, respected, and understood. My approach is holistic and person-centered. I also utilize evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I currently work with children, adolescents and adults. Recognizing that each person’s experiences, values, cultural background, relationships, and life circumstances shape their mental and emotional well-being, is fundamental in my therapeutic framework.
I value cultural awareness and humility and strive to honor the diversity, traditions, beliefs, and heritage that are meaningful to each individual. As a bilingual counselor, I am passionate about providing culturally responsive care and creating space for clients to express themselves in the language and cultural context in which they feel most comfortable. I believe healing is an individualized and collaborative process.
I understand that therapy can seem intimidating, so rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I work alongside each client to understand their unique needs, strengths, values, and goals. My work incorporates mindfulness and encourages greater awareness of the connection between thoughts, emotions, and the body.
I am particularly passionate about supporting individuals who are navigating trauma, life transitions, relationships, identity, cultural experiences, and emotional challenges. My goal is to guide clients through their healing process with compassion, curiosity, and respect while helping them develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and connection to themselves.
