My journey working with families began, when I made a decision to apply for a Family Service Specialist position with a Child Welfare Agency. With great confidence and expectation, I was going to make a difference in a child, a parent, or family’s life. However, when I was presented with a large caseload, that required my immediate attention, and situations that were beyond my control; I quickly recognized I was no Super Hero. I was overwhelmed, often frustrated, and many times feeling defeated. Of course, questions arose, if I made the right career path? The answer was and still is, Yes. I did. Because, I truly believe that God opened the door, to an amazing and rewarding opportunity to support individuals and families that needed help. Because of this great opportunity, I have over twenty years of experience working with children and families in New Jersey and North Carolina.
Today, my purpose is to encourage and advocate for those persons, feeling overwhelmed by life’s challenges. To allow, voices to be spoken freely without judgment. To provide a space for someone to listen, not feel rejected. To also build confidence to challenge negative thoughts. I believe in the person-centered approach, “focusing care on the needs of individuals”. In addition to, the strength based approach, “a collaborative process between the person supported by services and those supporting them,” empowering them to work together, to achieve an outcome that supports the person’s strengths.

Isaiah 58:10-11
And if though draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day; and the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
